worship—Blessing of the Hands

Blessings of the Hands will be celebrated this Sunday, October 18 at both services in honor of the Feast Day of St. Luke. All health care workers will be invited to the altar to have their hands blessed and sprinkled with holy water. Please invite your family, friends and neighbors who are health care professionals.

 

worship—Fall Community Service at St. Philip’s

The Fall Community Service at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Germanton, North Carolina will be Sunday, October 18 at 4 p.m. with Father Steve Rice as Celebrant. This beautiful, century-old church has never been electrified or plumbed and offers rare opportunity for worship on a fall afternoon. St. Philip’s is located 15 minutes north of Winston-Salem on Highways 8 and 65. Please make plans now to attend.

 

worship—All Saints’ Names Being Accepted

All Saints’ Day will be celebrated at both 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday, November 1. If you have names of saints who have died and you would like remembered in the service, please contact Libby Craven (765-0294 or libby@sttimothys.ws) by Friday, October 23.

learn—Women’s Sunday School Class

All women are invited to the Women’s Sunday School Class this Sunday, October 11, 9:15-10:15 a.m. as they continue the study Acts: From Maintenance to Mission by the Rev. Canon C.K. Robertson and the Rev. Susan D. Snook. Meeting in the ECW Hall, this study will continue for six weeks. You may print the study by clicking  http://thescp.org/documents/ACTSStudyGuide.pdf. connect—With Sincere Sympathy

The family of St. Timothy’s extends sympathies to Melanie Carlson, Tina Stearns and their families in the October 10 death of Melanie’s and Tina’s mother, St. Tim’s member Margaret Ketchie. A memorial service will be held in the St. Tim’s chapel at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 16 with a reception party following at Melanie’s home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Also, the family of St. Timothy’s extends sympathies to Rick, Pam, Kyle, Christopher and Will Carter in the October 13 death of Rick’s father, Dr. William Weller of Moneta, Virginia. Arrangements have not been finalized as of this time.

Sincere sympathies are also extended to Bud, Janet and John Gresh in the October 13 death of Janet’s mother Mary Hague in South Dakota. Arrangements have not been finalized as of this time.

connect—Craft & Sewing Group

The Craft & Sewing Group will meet this Sunday, October 18 at noon with Dale Link giving a demonstration on how to make a no-sew Halloween Treat Bag just in time for the kids are your house! Kits will be available for $2 with directions. To reserve your kit, please e-mail Dale at dlinksews@gmail.com. Bring your bagged lunch and enjoy some great fellowship within our St. Tim’s community. connect—Fellowship Meals

Everyone is invited to enjoy a great home-cooked, hot breakfast served each Sunday, 8:30-9:15 a.m. in Drake Hall. For a $4 donation, you get fellowship with your church family in a spiritually uplifting environment! Also everyone is invited to attend the Wednesday Fellowship meal served each Wednesday, 5:45-6:30 p.m. in Drake Hall. For a $6 adult and $3 child donation, you will receive a varied meal including an entrée with vegetables, salad and dessert. Please join your Christian brothers and sisters in parish fellowship this week. For more information, contact the church office.

 

connect—Women's Retreat

The St. Timothy’s Women’s retreat is an annual event where all the wonderful women of our parish are invited to attend a gathering for fellowship, spiritual growth and rejuvenation. The retreat for 2010 will be held February 5-7, 2010 at the Laurel Ridge Camp, Conference and Retreat Center located near West Jefferson, North Carolina. Christie Barker, a Deacon at Trinity Episcopal in Statesville, will facilitate our retreat and teach us about important women in Christian history using prayer, Bible study and small group activities. If you are interested in more details about the 2010 retreat, please print a registration form here, fill it out and return it to the church with $100 deposit. And as a convenience to you, you can register online here and make your payment right here, too! A Women’s Retreat information table will be located outside Drake Hall during Wednesday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast. This week (Wednesday) Dale Link and (Sunday) “Mystery Hostess” will be there to answer your questions. Registration forms and a Women of the Bible quiz will also be available. Stop by and say “hi” to Dale and the Mystery Hostess. serve—Stitch by Stitch

Thursday’s Stitch by Stitch will NOT meet on Thursday, October 15 at 7 p.m. but will resume on October 22. Anyone who knits or crochets or would like to learn is invited to help make prayer shawls and blankets for those in need. Contact Martha Watson (760-0129).

 

serve—Operation Sharehouse

Operation Sharehouse will return to Drake Hall on Saturday, October 24, 9-11 a.m. to package 15,000 meals for the underprivileged. At least 30 more volunteers are needed to reach our goal. Join the St. Timothy’s CROP Hunger Walk team for Sunday, October 18, 2:30 p.m. at Corpening Plaza in Winston-Salem and help bring awareness to and alleviate hunger issues both locally and globally. serve—Lowe’s  Foods Green Points

Lowe’s Foods Green Points program has come to an end and will not be honored in the stores anymore. Anyone with points should call Lowe’s Foods at 800-311-2117 or 888-537-8646, press 2 and have the points transferred to a worthy cause such as the Clemmons Food Pantry (#420231439460). This needs to be done before you surrender your rewards card for a new card because the number listed will be changed on the new card and the points will be gone.

Save your Box Tops for Education to bring to the church office. Cook Elementary uses the donations to buy school supplies for the underprivileged children they serve. Contact Anita Wesson (722-7960).

The Crisis Control Gift of the Month for October is toilet tissue. You may bring your donations to the shelves in Drake Hall or to the box in the volunteer office in Gribbin building.

CHILDREN’S NEWS ...

LEARN—After Mass Bible Blast for all preschoolers through third graders will meet this Sunday, October 18 at noon in Gribbin Library for lunch, Bible story and craft. Parents will pick up at 1:30 p.m. Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

 

LEARN—This Sunday, October 18, the preschoolers and primary school-aged children gather at 9:15 a.m. in the Chapel for singing before being dismissed with their teachers to their classes. At 10:15 a.m. the preschool children move to room C2 for Preschool Worship and the primary children attend Children’s Chapel in the chapel. The primary children enter church at the 10:30 a.m. offertory to join their parents. Preschool children meet their parents at the 10:30 a.m. communion hymns in the pews. All children are welcomed at anytime for Sunday School and worship! Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

 

LEARN—Wednesday night classes begin with the Way of the Child program for K-2nd grades meeting at 5:15-6 p.m. in room C-2. Families will eat dinner together, 6-6:30 p.m. then the 3rd-5th graders have their Way of the Child class at 6:30-7:15 p.m. in room C-2 and the preschoolers will have Bible in Action in room C-3, 6:30-7:15 p.m. Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

 

LEARN—Children’s Choirs meet each Wednesday with the 3rd-5th graders meeting 5:15-6 p.m. and the K-2 graders meet 6:30-7:15 p.m. Contact Christin Barnhardt (765-0294 or christin@sttimothys.ws.)

 

LEARN—Music Class, God’s Children Sing!, for infants through preschoolers is offered weekly on Tuesdays, 1 p.m. in C-2. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Register by contacting Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws).

YOUTH NEWS ...

CONNECT—The youth in 6th-12th grades will have a lock-in at Salem Gymnastics this Friday, October 16 beginning at 8 p.m. Since a certified instructor will teach the ins and outs of gymnastics, the latest you can arrive will be 10 p.m.  Pick-up will be at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Please bring $10, your permission slip (print here), a pillow, sleeping bag and clothes to sleep in. Register here.

 

LEARNSunday School for middle schoolers meets in room D-3 in Drake Hall while the high schoolers meet on the Drake stage, both at 9:15-10:15 a.m. for biblical-based discussion. All youth in 6th-12th grades are invited to attend and bring friends.

 

LEARN—The youth in 6th-12th grades are invited to meet each Wednesday in room D-1 in Drake at 6:30-7:30 p.m. for discussion based on the Bible’s lectionary selections.

 

LEARN—EYC this Sunday, October 18 will meet at 1:45 p.m. at Corpening Plaza in downtown for the CROP Walk. Look for the navy blue St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church banner. (You can also meet at the church to leave for the plaza by 1:15 p.m.) Parents will pick up at the plaza when the walk is over.

 

WORSHIP—All high school youth are invited to meet every Friday, 7:30-8 a.m. for Prayer Breakfast at Chick-fil-A off Knollwood Street in Thruway Shopping Center. Devotion begins at 7:55 a.m.
