learnSt. Nicholas Day This Sunday

St. Nicholas Day for the children will be celebrated this Sunday, December 6 beginning at 9:15 a.m. The children will gather in the chapel for music before proceeding to classes for crafts and stories. St. Nicholas will even make a visit to the children.

worship—Bishop Curry Visits December 13

Bishop Curry will lead the worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 13. He will baptize, confirm and receive youth and adults into the church. Please make plans to attend this special service. If you have questions about church membership, please contact Father Steve (765-0294 or frsteve@sttimothys.ws).

serve—Landscape Workday Set

A Landscape Workday has been set for Saturday, December 12 at 9 a.m. Please bring tools to cut dead brush and prune limbs that touch the building. Also rakes and shovels will be helpful for other chores. Contact Anne Hester (748-9219).

serve—Congregational Caroling

Mark your calendar now for the Congregational Caroling scheduled on Sunday, December 20 at 6 p.m. You will meet in Drake Hall and be divided into groups to go into to the community to sing. worship—Christmas Services Announced

Christmas services at St. Timothy’s will be held on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. with the children dramatizing the Gospel reading and at 11 p.m. with music beginning at 10:30 p.m. There will also be a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. in the church. Please mark your calendars now to attend these special services.

serve—Vocalists Invited to Sing

Would you like to sing in the St. Tim’s choir on Christmas Eve at the 10:30 p.m. prelude before the 11 p.m. service? If so, let Director of Music Ministries Christin Barnhardt know (765-0294 or christin@sttimothys.ws) and join the group for rehearsals on Wednesdays, December 16 and 23 from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

serve—Christmas Pageant Needs Costumes

Please look through any “dress up” clothes or Halloween costumes and find farm animal accessories for the children to use in the Christmas Eve pageant. Animal ears, tails, furry outfits or capes would work. Please bring them to the church before next Wednesday, December 9and place them in the labeled basket in Gribbin Library. Make sure you mark your items if you would like them returned. Contact Director of Children’s Ministries Pam Carter (765-0294 or pam@sttimothys.ws).

serve—Books for Cook Elementary

Once again, books are being collected for third through fifth grade students at Cook Elementary School. Series books such as The Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones and The Boxcar Children are suitable or pick any book you or your children enjoyed at that age. Bring books to Drake Hall by December 13 or place monetary donations made to St. Tim’s marked “Books for Cook” in the offering plate. Contact Anita Wesson (722-7960).

serve—Christmas Wreaths Benefit Prodigals

Spread the true spirit of Christmas by giving friends, family and loved ones holiday wreaths and greenery purchased from Prodigals Community. Prodigals Community is a Christian non-profit organization located in Winston-Salem which helps individuals and families whose lives are affected by drug and alcohol abuse. worship—Wednesday Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer

The Wednesday Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer Service meets at NOON each Wednesday in the chapel to allow anyone working the opportunity to worship during his or her lunch hour. A light soup lunch will be served following the service.

learn—What Would Your Life Look Like Without Debt?

Want to find out what your life could look like without debt? Join us for a 45-minute preview on December 9 at 6:30 p.m. or December 13 at noon. Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University is coming to St. Timothy’s. The 13-week course starts January 10, 2010 and runs until April 4. The classes are two hours long, 6:30-8:30 p.m. For the cost of $99, you will learn how to follow God’s plan to beat debt, build wealth and keep your own economy thriving. learn—Adult Spiritual Growth Classes

Adults have a several choices for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. A class studying Max Lucado’s “Eye of the Storm” meets in room D1 (contact Gerry Link, 602-2587) while a class for women, meeting in ECW Hall, will resume with Chapter 11 of Acts (contact Lea Thullbery, lea@sttimothys.ws). Church Chat meets in Drake Hall at 9:30 a.m. for a lively, interactive study of the weekly lectionary Gospel reading (contact Beth Morphis, 765-5262). On Wednesdays, adults can attend Bible study in ECW Hall at 8:15 a.m. or in Drake Hall at 6:30 p.m., both led by Father Steve (765-0294).

connect—Advent Quiet Day This Saturday

All are invited to an Advent Quiet this Saturday, December 5, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.in the ECW Hall. Take time away to refresh your mind, body and spirit to prepare for His coming. A light continental-style breakfast will be served (coffee, tea, juice, bagels and rolls) as well as a simple soup luncheon (vegetarian included). There is no charge. Please contact Brooke Suiter (760-4045 or bsuiter334@gmail.com) by Tuesday, December 1 to let her know if you are attending and if you need child care. This retreat is sponsored by the Mary Magdalene Chapter of the Daughters of the King.

Everyone is invited to enjoy a great home-cooked, hot breakfast served each Sunday, 8:45-9:15 a.m. in Drake Hall. For a $4 donation, you get fellowship with your church family in a spiritually uplifting environment! Also everyone is invited to attend the Wednesday Fellowship meal served each Wednesday, 5:45-6:30 p.m.in Drake Hall. For a $6 adult and $3 child donation, you will receive a varied meal including an entrée with vegetables, salad and dessert. connect—Women's Retreat Deadline This Sunday

Deadline for Women’s Retreat 2010 is this Sunday, December 6.  The retreat scheduled for February 5-7 will be held at Laurel Ridge Center near West Jefferson, N.C. Space is limited but your $100 deposit will reserve your room. Double rooms are $180 while single rooms are $245. Don’t let money be the reason that you do not attend because scholarships are available by contacting Cathy Culver (765-0294 or cathy@sttimothys.ws). If you are interested in more details about the 2010 retreat, please print a registration form here, fill it out and return it to the church with $100 deposit. Register online here and make your payment right here, too!  A Women’s Retreat information table will be located outside Drake Hall during Wednesday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast. serve—Christmas Poinsettias Deadline This Sunday

Order forms for purchasing Christmas poinsettias for decorating the Christmas Eve and Day services at St. Tim’s are available in the kiosk in Drake Hall, in the Gribbin Lobby and online by clicking here. The poinsettias can be given in honor or memory of a loved one and cost $13 each. Deadline for purchase is this Sunday, December 6.

serve—Calling All Instrumentalists!

All instrumentalists are invited to play in an ensemble for the Prelude before the 11 p.m. Christmas Eve service. Contact David Bergstone (dbergstone@earthlink.net) or Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws) to find out about music and rehearsals.

serve—Angel Trees in Drake Lobby

The Episcopal Church Women’s Angel Treesare located in the lobby of Drake Hall. One tree is decorated with gift tags for Senior Services while the other tree is decorated with tags for Guardian ad Litem children. Senior Services uses the items to help the senior citizens of the community throughout the year. Guardian ad Litem children have been placed with grandparents or other relatives by the court system because their parents are unavailable to take care of them. To participate, take a tag, purchase the item listed and return the tag with the unwrapped gift to the tree by noon on December 13. Some items may be expensive so more than one person may want to share the item. Contact Jane Richards (924-3453) or Ashley Robbins (659-4500).

serve—Charitable Donations for 2009

Did you know that if you are an IRA owner, age 70½ or over, you can directly transfer tax-free up to $100,000 per year to an eligible charitable organization such as St. Tim’s through 2009? The funds must be contributed directly by the IRA trustee to St. Tim’s. Amounts so transferred are not taxable and no deduction is available for the amount given. Also, please plan ahead for the end of the year. Donors must deliver checks on or by December 31 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2009. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2010 will not qualify even if the check is predated to 2009 or was actually written in 2009. Only checks that are written, mailed and postmarked in 2009 are deductible in 2009 though not received until 2010.

Save your Box Tops for Education to bring to the church office. Cook Elementary uses the donations to buy school supplies for the underprivileged children they serve. Contact Anita Wesson (722-7960).

The Crisis Control Gift of the Month for December is canned tuna or salmon. You may bring your donations to the shelves in Drake Hall or to the box in the volunteer office in Gribbin building.

CHILDREN’S NEWS ...

LEARN—This Sunday, December 6, the preschoolers and primary school-aged children gather at 9:15 a.m. in the Chapel for music before celebrating St. Nicholas Day. At 10:15 a.m. the preschool children move to room C2 for Preschool Worship and the primary children attend Children’s Chapel in the chapel. The primary children enter church at the 10:30 a.m. offertory to join their parents. Preschool children enter to meet their parents in the pews at the 10:30 a.m. communion hymns. All children are welcomed at anytime for Sunday School and worship! Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

LEARN—Each Wednesday night the children have Bible study with the Way of the Child program for K-2nd grades meeting at 5:15-6 p.m. in room C-2. Families will eat dinner together, 6-6:30 p.m. then the 3rd-5th graders have their Way of the Child class at 6:30-7:15 p.m. in room C-2 and the preschoolers have Bible in Action in room C-3, 6:30-7:15 p.m. Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

LEARN—Children’s Choirs meet each Wednesday with the 3rd-5th graders’ Kids of the Kingdom Choir meeting 5:15-6 p.m. and the K-2 graders’ Cherubs Choir meeting 6:30-7:15 p.m.Both groups meet in the choir room. Contact Christin Barnhardt (765-0294 or christin@sttimothys.ws.)

LEARN—Music Class, God’s Children Sing!, for infants through preschoolers is offered weekly on Tuesdays, 1 p.m. in C-2. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Register by contacting Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws).

SERVE—Would you like your child to participate in the Children’s Christmas Pageant at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve in the church? Rehearsals will be incorporated into the regular Wednesday night classes on December 9 and 16, 6:30-7:15 pm. in the choir room. YOUTH NEWS ...

LEARNSunday School for all youth in grades 6th-12th meets on the Drake Hall stage at 9:15 a.m. for biblical discussion relating to everyday topics.

LEARN—The youth in 6th-12th grades are invited to meet each Wednesday in room D-1 in Drake at 6:30-7:30 p.m. for discussion based on the Bible’s lectionary selections.

LEARN—EYC for the youth in 6th-12th grades this Sunday, December 6 will have the 6th-8th graders meeting at 4:30 p.m. in Drake Hall. The 9th-12th graders will join them at 5:30 p.m. for dinner then the high school group will meet from 6-7 p.m. Middle schoolers can be picked up at 6 p.m.

WORSHIP—All high school youth are invited to meet every Friday, 7:30-8 a.m. at Chick-fil-A off Knollwood Street in Thruway Shopping Center for Prayer Breakfast. Devotion begins at 7:55 a.m.

SERVE—Youth Music holds practice in Drake Hall each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. If you are in 6th-12th grades, play an instrument or sing and would like to help lead music in youth gatherings, please attend. For more information, contact Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws).
