serve—Bring Your Loose Change TONIGHT

Please help St. Tim’s Club 54 raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Winston-Salem through their “Pennies from Heaven” campaign. All money raised will benefit the Ronald McDonald House. How many pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters can you help us collect? Please place your donations in the heart-shaped dish on each table this evening during Wednesday night dinner. The family of St. Timothy's extends sincere sympathies to Dr.George Ellis and family in December 10 death of his wife and St. Tim's member Dr. Helen Ellis. A memorial service will be held at St. Tim's tomorrow December 17 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in Drake Hall.

 

learn—Children’s Birthday Party for Baby Jesus This Sunday

All the children are invited to a Birthday Party for Baby Jesus this Sunday, December 20 beginning in the chapel at 9:15 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. the children will move to room C-5 to have the Bible story and party. Each child is asked to bring a baby gift which will be donated to the North Carolina Piedmont Triad Chapter of Newborns in Need. Suggested items include diapers (preemie, newborn or size 1), diaper wipes, baby clothes wash (unscented—fragrant free), wash clothes, onsides, sleepers/gowns, receiving blankets, BPA free bottles, socks, pants, pacifiers, comb and brush sets, bibs and burp cloths, bath towels, Small rattles/toys. serve—Congregational Caroling

Please attend the Congregational Caroling scheduled this Sunday, December 20 at 6 p.m. You will meet in Drake Hall and be divided into groups to go into to the community to sing. connect—Youth Christmas Party Next Wednesday

On Wednesday, December 23 at 6 p.m. all youth in 6th-12th grades will have a Christmas party in Drake Hall. There will be a gift exchange so please bring a $10 gift and a finger food or snack to share. Soft drinks will be provided. Parents are welcomed to attend. serve—Stitch by Stitch Resumes in January

Stitch by Stitch, the St. Tim’s ministry which knits and crochets to share God’s warmth with those in need, will not meet during the holiday season. The Tuesday 10 a.m. group will resume on January 5, 2010 while the Thursday 7 p.m. group will resume on January 7, 2010. Both groups meet in Gribbin Parlor. connect—Book Club to Meet in January

The next meeting of the St. Tim’s Book Club will be Sunday, January 24 at noon in ECW Hall. Discussion will be on “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. Plan on bringing a bagged lunch and joining the group.

worship—Christmas Services

Christmas services at St. Timothy’s will be held on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. with the children dramatizing the Gospel reading and at 11 p.m. with music beginning at 10:30 p.m. There will also be a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m. in the church. Please mark your calendars now to attend these special services.

worship—Wednesday Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer

The Wednesday Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer Service meets at NOON each Wednesday in the chapel to allow anyone working the opportunity to worship during his or her lunch hour. A light soup lunch will be served following the service.

learn—Adult Spiritual Growth Classes

Adults have a several choices for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. A class studying Max Lucado’s “Eye of the Storm” meets in room D1 (contact Gerry Link, 602-2587) while a class for women, meeting in ECW Hall, discusses the Book of Acts (contact Lea Thullbery, lea@sttimothys.ws). Church Chat meets in Drake Hall at 9:30 a.m. for a lively, interactive study of the weekly lectionary Gospel reading (contact Beth Morphis, 765-5262). On Wednesdays, adults can attend Bible study in ECW Hall at 8:15 a.m. or in Drake Hall at 6:30 p.m., both led by Father Steve (765-0294).

connect—Concert Features St. Tim’s Parishioners

Scott Carpenter, our St. Tim’s organist, will present a concert on the famous organ built by Dave Tannenberg, on Wednesday, December 23 at noon at the Old Salem Visitor Center. Guest artist and St. Tim’s parishioner Charlton Holt will join him in concert playing the clarinet. Admission is free and the congregation is cordially invited.

connect—Fellowship Meals

Everyone is invited to enjoy a great home-cooked, hot breakfast served each Sunday, 8:45-9:15 a.m. in Drake Hall. For a $4 donation, you get fellowship with your church family in a spiritually uplifting environment! Also everyone is invited to attend the Wednesday Fellowship meal served each Wednesday (except for December 23 and 30), 5:45-6:30 p.m. in Drake Hall. For a $6 adult and $3 child donation, you will receive a varied meal including an entrée with vegetables, salad and dessert. Please join your Christian brothers and sisters in parish fellowship this week. For more information, contact the church office.

Join other adults for “Devout Stout” at Finnigan’s Wake Pub and Kitchen at 620 N. Save your Box Tops for Education to bring to the church office. Cook Elementary uses the donations to buy school supplies for the underprivileged children they serve. Contact Anita Wesson (722-7960).

serve—Charitable Donations for 2009

Did you know that if you are an IRA owner, age 70½ or over, you can directly transfer tax-free up to $100,000 per year to an eligible charitable organization such as St. Tim’s through 2009? The funds must be contributed directly by the IRA trustee to St. Tim’s. Amounts so transferred are not taxable and no deduction is available for the amount given. Also, please plan ahead for the end of the year. Donors must deliver checks on or by December 31 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2009. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2010 will not qualify even if the check is predated to 2009 or was actually written in 2009. Only checks that are written, mailed and postmarked in 2009 are deductible in 2009 though not received until 2010.

The Crisis Control Gift of the Month for December is canned tuna or salmon. You may bring your donations to the shelves in Drake Hall or to the box in the volunteer office in Gribbin building.

CHILDREN’S NEWS ...

LEARN—This Sunday, December 20, the preschoolers and primary school-aged children gather at 9:15 a.m. in the Chapel for music before dismissing to classrooms for Birthday Party for Baby Jesus. At 10:15 a.m. the preschool children move to room C2 for Preschool Worship and the primary children attend Children’s Chapel in the chapel. The primary children enter church at the 10:30 a.m. offertory to join their parents. Preschool children enter to meet their parents in the pews at the 10:30 a.m. communion hymns. All children are welcomed at anytime for Sunday School and worship! Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

LEARN—After tonight, each Wednesday night resuming January 6, 2010 the children have Bible study with the Way of the Child program for K-2nd grades meeting at 5:15-6 p.m. in room C-2. Families will eat dinner together, 6-6:30 p.m. then the 3rd-5th graders have their Way of the Child class at 6:30-7:15 p.m. in room C-2 and the preschoolers have Bible in Action in room C-3, 6:30-7:15 p.m. Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

LEARN—Resuming on January 6, 2010, Children’s Choirs meet each Wednesday with the 3rd-5th graders’ Kids of the Kingdom Choir meeting 5:15-6 p.m. and the K-2 graders’ Cherubs Choir meeting 6:30-7:15 p.m. Both groups meet in the choir room. LEARN—Music Class, God’s Children Sing!, for infants through preschoolers is offered weekly on Tuesdays, 1 p.m. in C-2. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Register by contacting Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws).

SERVE—Would you like your child to participate in the Children’s Christmas Pageant at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve in the church? Rehearsals will be TONIGHT December 16, beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the choir room. YOUTH NEWS ...

LEARNSunday School for all youth in grades 6th-12th meets on the Drake Hall stage at 9:15 a.m. for biblical discussion relating to everyday topics.

LEARN—After TONIGHT, the youth in 6th-12th grades are invited to meet each Wednesday resuming January 6, 2010 in room D-1 in Drake at 6:30-7:30 p.m. for discussion based on the Bible’s lectionary selections.

LEARN—EYC for the youth in 6th-12th grades this Sunday, December 20 will meet together at 6 p.m. in Drake Hall to join the Congregational Caroling. After dividing into groups to sing at a few homes, everyone will return to Drake Hall for fellowship and goodies.

WORSHIP—All high school youth are invited to meet this Friday, December 18, 7:30-8 a.m. at Chick-fil-A off Knollwood Street in Thruway Shopping Center for Prayer Breakfast. Devotion begins at 7:55 a.m. The group will break for the school holidays and then resume meeting every Friday on January 8, 2010.

SERVE—Resuming on January 5, 2010, Youth Music holds practice in Drake Hall each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. If you are in 6th-12th grades, play an instrument or sing and would like to help lead music in youth gatherings, please attend.
