serveHaiti Earthquake Relief Offering

At St. Tim's this Sunday, January 24, the offering (all cash and checks designated "Haiti") from both services will be donated to the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund for Haiti. You do not have to wait to contribute.  You can donate through the general ministry fund online at St. Tim's website and use the description as "Haiti". You can also make monetary donations through Episcopal Relief & Development either by phone at 1-800-334-7626, ext. 5129 or checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116-7058 or online donations can be made at www.er-d.org/donate-select.php.  Please mark donations for "Haiti Relief Fund."

connect—With Sincere Sympathy

The family of St. Timothy’s extends sincere sympathies to the family of Holly Schelb in her death on January 17. A service will be held today at 4 p.m. in the church. Following interment in the columbarium, a reception will be held in ECW Hall. Also the family of St. Timothy’s extends sincere sympathies to the family of Alice Livingston in her death on January 16. Her service will be held in the St. Tim’s chapel on Thursday at 3 p.m. with interment in the columbarium. Her family will receive friends in the ECW Hall following the service.

The patronal feast day of St. Timothy’s is January 24 and will be observed this year at both of the Sunday worship services, 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. that day. You won’t want to miss this special day of worship in the life of our parish.

worship—Wednesday Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer

The Wednesday Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer Service meets at NOON each Wednesday in the chapel to allow anyone working the opportunity to worship during his or her lunch hour. Please make plans to attend.

 

LEARN

learn—New Adult Class Meeting

Beginning Tuesday, January 12 and running every Tuesday for 12 weeks, an adult class entitled “Topics from the First Thousand Years of Christian History” is taught in room C-5, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcomed to attend. learn—Adult Spiritual Growth Classes

Adults have a several choices for Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. A class studying Max Lucado’s “Eye of the Storm” meets in room D1 (contact Gerry Link, 602-2587) while a class for women, meeting in ECW Hall, discusses the Book of Acts (contact Lea Thullbery, lea@sttimothys.ws). Church Chat meets in Drake Hall at 9:30 a.m. for a lively, interactive study of the weekly lectionary Gospel reading (contact Beth Morphis, 765-5262). On Wednesdays, adults can attend Bible study in ECW Hall at 8:15 a.m. or in Drake Hall at 6:30 p.m., both led by Father Steve (765-0294).

connect—Annual Parish Meeting Set

The Annual Parish Meeting will be Sunday, February 14, 9:15-10:15 a.m. in Drake Hall with a light breakfast served. Vestry elections and parish business will be voted on at this time by all recorded confirmed adult communicants in good standing. (To check on or change your membership status, please contact Libby Craven in the parish office—765-0294 or libby@sttimothys.ws.) Two parish forums will be held prior to the meeting, one on January 31 and one on February 7 both 9:10-9:30 am. in Drake Hall. The forums offer the chance to ask questions about parish business. For more information about the vestry elections or parish meeting, contact Father Steve Rice (frsteve@sttimothys.ws), Lea Thullbery (918-7981 or lea@sttimothys.ws) or any vestry member.

connect—Book Club Meets This Sunday

The next meeting of the St. Tim’s Book Club will be this Sunday, January 24 at noon in ECW Hall. Discussion will be on “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. Plan on bringing a bagged lunch and joining the group.

connect—Fellowship Meals

Everyone is invited to enjoy a great home-cooked, hot breakfast served each Sunday, 8:45-9:15 a.m. in Drake Hall. For a $4 donation, you get fellowship with your church family in a spiritually uplifting environment! Also everyone is invited to attend the Wednesday Fellowship meal served each Wednesday, 5:45-6:30 p.m. in Drake Hall. For a $6 adult and $3 child donation, you will receive a varied meal including an entrée with vegetables, salad and dessert. Please join your Christian brothers and sisters in parish fellowship this week. For more information, contact the church office.

connect—Come to Sunday’s Devout Stout

Join other adults for “Devout Stout” at Finnigan’s Wake Pub and Kitchen at 620 N. Trade Street in Winston-Salem on the first Sunday of each month, 7-10 p.m. for a glass of iced tea or ale and a bit of theology. serve—Meal Teams Need Help

Volunteers for Wednesday Dinner Teams and Sunday Breakfast Teams are now being accepted. St. Timothy’s currently has seven teams for the Wednesday Night Dinners which means that each team works approximately every two months. Tasks for Wednesday Night include set-up, serving and clean-up. Another opportunity for early service and fellowship is to volunteer for a Sunday morning breakfast team. Volunteers for Team Leaders are also welcome on both days. Contact Milt Price (788-7003 or milton1942@msn.com).

serve—LEM Camp Announced

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) is a corps of lay servants who feel called to serve at the altar during celebrations of the Holy Eucharist. LEMs are licensed by the bishop to administer the sacrament on Sundays and they provide invaluable assistance to the clergy during the service. Serving as a LEM is a great honor and a calling. Have you ever wondered if God is calling you to serve as a LEM? Are you simply curious about what this is all about? Sunday, January 31 at 4 p.m., there will be a "LEM Camp" in the church to share information about the ministry of LEMs and a demonstration of what LEMs do. You don't have to commit to come and see. serve—Altar Flowers for 2010 Are Being Scheduled

Altar Flowers for 2010 are now being scheduled. Flowers may be given by multiple individuals for various reasons on the same Sunday and will be remembered in the weekly announcements. Each flower donation is $40. (During Lent there will be no flowers however remembrances are still placed and funds are received to help defray costs.) To participate in this opportunity to both beautify the church and remember significant individuals, contact Libby Craven (765-0294 or libby@sttimothys.ws).

serve—7th Annual Day of Caring

Save the date for the 7th Annual Day of Caring at St. Timothy’s to be held Saturday, April 10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Breakfast will be served at 7:45 a.m. before breaking out in teams to work in the community. Save your Box Tops for Education to bring to the church office. Cook Elementary uses the donations to buy school supplies for the underprivileged children they serve. Contact Anita Wesson (722-7960).

The Care Group coordinators for January are Carole Erickson (768-8830) and Fran Boyd (768-3611). If you or someone you know are in need of temporary assistance with transportation, a meal or a visit, call them.

The Crisis Control Gift of the Month for January is jelly. You may bring your donations to the shelves in Drake Hall or to the box in the volunteer office in Gribbin building.

CHILDREN’S NEWS ...

LEARN—This Sunday, January 24, the preschoolers and primary school-aged children gather at 9:15 a.m. in the Chapel for music before dismissing to classrooms for Bible lessons. At 10:15 a.m. the preschool children move to room C2 for Preschool Worship and the primary children attend Children’s Chapel in the chapel. The primary children enter church at the 10:30 a.m. offertory to join their parents. Preschool children enter to meet their parents in the pews at the 10:30 a.m. communion hymns. All children are welcomed at anytime for Sunday School and worship! Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

LEARNEach Wednesday night the children have Bible study with the Way of the Child program for K-2nd grades meeting at 5:15-6 p.m. in room C-2. Families will eat dinner together, 6-6:30 p.m. then the 3rd-5th graders have their Way of the Child class at 6:30-7:15 p.m. in room C-2 and the preschoolers have Bible in Action in room C-3, 6:30-7:15 p.m. Contact Pam Carter (pam@sttimothys.ws).

LEARN—Children’s Choirs meet each Wednesday with the 3rd-5th graders’ Kids of the Kingdom Choir meeting 5:15-6 p.m. and the K-2 graders’ Cherubs Choir meeting 6:30-7:15 p.m. Both groups meet in the choir room. Contact Christin Barnhardt (765-0294 or christin@sttimothys.ws.)

LEARN—Music Class, God’s Children Sing!, for infants through preschoolers with a parent or caregiver is offered weekly on Tuesdays, at 9-9:30 am. and 1-1:30 p.m. in C-2. If you or someone you know has a child who would like to participate, please join us. If you cannot attend at these times but are interested in a preschool music class, contact Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws).

 

YOUTH NEWS ...

SERVE—A mandatory Acolyte training has been set for this Sunday, January 24 at 12:15 p.m. in the church. All acolytes that serve at either service are required to be there to receive new procedures for the worship services. Please mark your calendars now to attend. LEARNSunday School for all youth in grades 6th-12th meets on the Drake Hall stage at 9:15 a.m. for biblical discussion relating to everyday topics.

LEARN—The youth in 6th-12th grades are invited to meet each Wednesday in room D-1 in Drake at 6:30-7:30 p.m. for discussion based on the Bible’s lectionary selections.

LEARN—EYC for the youth in 6th-12th grades this Sunday, January 24 will meet together at 5:30 p.m. in Drake Hall. Parents can pick up their youth at 7:15 p.m.

WORSHIP—All high school youth are invited to meet on Fridays, 7:30-8 a.m. for Prayer Breakfast. Devotion begins at 7:55 a.m. The January location will be Biscuitville on Robinhood Road near Peacehaven Road.

SERVE—Youth Music holds practice in Drake Hall each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. If you are in 6th-12th grades, play an instrument or sing and would like to help lead music in youth gatherings, please attend. For more information, contact Christin Barnhardt (christin@sttimothys.ws).
