Outreach

Jesus said: For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.” (Matthew 25:35-36).

Guided by these words, the people of St.Timothy’s commit to serve the needs of people throughout our community and around the world.

OUTREACH FAQ & 411

Did you know there is an Outreach Commission at St. Timothy’s? Do you know who these people are and what they are doing?

Q. What is the Outreach Commission?

A. The outreach commission is a group of five individuals who were chosen by the vestry to be the vision of outreach at St. Timothy’s. This group will help identify needs in our community, nation and world. We will communicate these needs to the people of our parish. The commission was formed in October 2009. Since then we have been learning about past outreach activities and how outreach dollars are spent.

Q. Who is on the Outreach Commission?

A. The members of this team are Adrienne Beauchamp, Christie Keeley, Frances Miller, Joey Robbins and Doug Sanecki. Members serve 1-3 year terms allowing people to rotate on and off the commission each year.

Q. How will the Outreach Commission communicate with you?

A. St. Timothy's has a wonderful website, eNewsletter, mass e-mails, the parish paper, Wednesday night programs, Drake Hall entryway, and the announcement sheets in the church pews. We will be utilizing all of these avenues to communicate with you. So keep your eyes peeled for upcoming opportunities to reach out to those around us!

Q. Who “does” outreach?

A. We all do outreach. Opportunities to serve those in need come from various groups in the church, OWLS, ECW, Stitch by Stitch, EYC, and the children, just to name a few. Be sure to look for opportunities to get involved from other groups in addition to the outreach commission.

Q. What if you have identified an outreach opportunity in our community, nation or world?

A. The outreach commission welcomes new ideas at anytime from anyone. Just contact any one of the five people on the commission. Give us the details and we will do our best to make it happen or get you plugged in with folks who may already know something about it.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR …

Several of us are heading out to meet with various community organizations. We will create video documentaries of what these organizations do, how they impact the lives of individuals, and how we as their brothers and sisters in Christ can become more involved.

Our first stop is Samaritan Ministries followed by the Bethesda Center, both of which serve the needs of the hungry and homeless in Winston-Salem. Look for videos on the church website, on Wednesday nights and announcements in our other communication channels.

CURRENT MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

ADULT MISSION TRIP

The Adult Mission Committee is planning a mission trip to Costa Rica in November. The trip is coordinated through our companion diocese, the Diocese of Costa Rica. Current plans include working with Church of the Ascencion, an urban church in San Jose that currently has approximately 70 members and a very energetic priest who is trying to reach out and spread God’s grace to the people in the surrounding area.

One social program that was in place at the church was a sewing project to assist unemployed HIV+ women in earning an income. Unfortunately the church was robbed, the sewing machines were stolen, and the project ended. Our first action will be to raise enough money to get this project operational again. For more information on the trip, click here or contact Chris or Linda Skarzynski at 945-2522 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

OUTREACH NEWS AND UPDATES

Our response to the earthquake in Haiti

The Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) organization was quick to respond to the recent earthquake that rocked the country of Haiti. We were very pleased with the rapid response from St. Timothy’s to this disaster as well. The ERD is the “arm” of the church designed to reach out in times such as these, making it easy for our congregation to help those whose lives have been turned completely upside down. Our prayers remain with those aff ected by the earthquake. You can continue to donate by going to www.er-d.org. As of January 25, 2010, the people of St. Timothy’s had donated $3,234.20 towards this cause. This is a wonderful response to such a devastating disaster. Thank you!
